The background

Communication where the stakes were not theoretical

Fredrick O. Williams retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after more than twenty years of leadership. For over seven of those years he worked in Army Public Affairs, the discipline of telling an institution's story accurately and fast to audiences that include the press, the public, families, and Congress, often at the same time and often on a day nobody planned for.

He was a published military journalist, with bylined reporting in the JBLM Northwest Guardian covering the 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Since 2016 he has served as Military Liaison to the Association of the United States Army, Captain Meriwether Lewis Chapter, representing the Army on Capitol Hill and advocating for soldiers and their families.

Regent University, 2023. A Master of Arts in Strategic Communication, completed with a 3.93 grade point average, and his second master's degree.

Rather than treat two decades of practice as sufficient, he went and studied the field formally. It was his second master's degree. The first, in Management and Leadership from Webster University, reflects a conviction he still holds: a communication strategy is worthless if the organization underneath it cannot execute.

He then did the unglamorous thing and worked the craft from the agency side, handling public relations for corporate and nonprofit clients at a Fort Worth agency. Press releases to AP Style. Media lists. Pitches to reporters who owe you nothing. Coverage analysis afterward to see what actually moved.

Spirit Arrow Communications & Consulting is where all of it comes together, serving small and medium sized businesses across Fort Worth, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and, remotely, the rest of the country.

In the Army you learn quickly that the message you intended is irrelevant. The only thing that counts is the message they received.

How Fred works

Four things you can count on

You get told the truth first

If communication is not your bottleneck, you will hear that on the free call rather than after you have paid for an engagement that could not have helped.

Everything lands in writing

Findings, plans, message platforms and recommendations arrive as documents you own, specific enough that someone else could execute them.

One person, start to finish

The person on the discovery call writes the plan, drafts the release and coaches your team. There is no handoff to a junior you never met.

Internal before external

Your people hear it before the public does. Every time. A team that learns company news from Facebook stops believing leadership, and that damage is slow and expensive.

Beyond the practice

Service did not stop at retirement

Fred has served as Media Associate at Encounter Church in Fort Worth since 2021, leading technical operations and mentoring staff on digital production systems. He has also worked as a lead teacher in the Keller Independent School District, and he continues to represent the Army through the Association of the United States Army.

These are not resume filler. Volunteer-driven teams, classrooms and advocacy work are all environments where you cannot compel anyone to listen. You have to earn it with the message.
